Rate limits

Rate limits protect your Helply agent from abuse

Last updated on 28 Jan, 2026

What are rate limits?

Rate limits control how many requests can be made to an endpoint within a specific period of time. They’re used to prevent system overload, ensure fair usage, and keep services running smoothly.

In the context of Helply, rate limits define how often the agent can send or receive data when responding to user messages.

Why are rate limits important?

Rate limits help:

  • Maintain consistent performance

  • Prevent abuse or excessive usage

  • Protect connected services and integrations

  • Avoid service interruptions during traffic spikes

How rate limits work in Helply

Helply uses rate limits to manage message flow across all active conversations and protect the system from excessive or spammy traffic.

Helply rate limits

  • Global limit:
    10 messages per second
Applies across all conversations and all customers.

  • Per conversation limit:
    2 messages per second
Applies to individual conversations and helps prevent spam or rapid-fire messaging within a single chat.

FAQ

What happens if a rate limit is exceeded?
If a rate limit is exceeded: - Additional messages may be temporarily delayed - Some messages may be ignored until the limit resets - Normal message flow resumes automatically once traffic drops - These limits are enforced automatically to ensure consistent performance.
